AT&T (News
- Alert) recently announced that organizations can now pre-register for the AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk (PTT) service. The highly-anticipated PTT service, which incorporates and integrates all the advantages of traditional PTT communications such as quick calling and group talking along with more advanced capabilities which include mobile applications, smartphone compatibility and super fast connections over 3G and 4G/LTE (News - Alert) networks, will be commercially available by the end of the year.
In a statement, Wendy Whitten, IT senior analyst, Crowley Maritime Corporation, said, "If our brokers can't communicate quickly and move shipments effectively, we're talking about loads and loads of spoiled goods. AT&T Enhanced PTT has the coverage, speed and ease of operation that our team needs. And now, instead of carrying both a smartphone and PTT phone, our brokers only need one device to get the job done."
Organizations of all sizes as well as businesses using AT&T's Enhanced PTT services will benefit from a wide range of features. Users will be able to now call up to 250 people with the mere push of a button; view contacts available to talk immediately via AT&T Enhanced PTT's presence indicators; easily download the AT&T Enhanced PTT client over compatible mobile devices all without the need for any special configuration; enable supervisors to override PTT calls so as to deliver critical time-sensitive messages to teams; make use of mobile applications, GPS or cameras over their phones during PTT calls; and select from six different handset features at launch.
Further enhancements to AT&T's Enhanced PTT solution will include dispatching software for businesses which enables them to direct employees to specific locations at specific times. Those organizations and businesses keen on deploying and start using AT&T Enhanced PTT don't have to wait until November as they can pre-register now. The "early access" program of AT&T includes two options - users can either choose to pre-register for Enhanced PTT solution now and avail discounts on compatible smartphones, or they can activate a beta version of Enhanced PTT at no extra charges for the PTT client.
