D2 Technologies' Doug Makishima to Discuss 4G IP Smartphone, RCS at VoLTE Conference 2012

Voice over LTE (News - Alert) (VoLTE) is a part of the spectrum of mobile voice over IP (VoIP). VoLTE uses a 4G LTE broadband service, providing a suitable amount of broadband and drops off less frequently. Service providers are counting on VoLTE to deliver a carrier-grade level of service and differentiate their voice services from Internet-enabled third-party VoIP services. Based on experiences acquired through multiple field trials, carriers will start offering VoLTE in 2013 with the hope that VoLTE will be the LTE killer application.

D2 Technologies (News - Alert) is a provider of VoIP and converged IP IMS communications software for devices used in 4G and next-generation networks that deliver advanced communication services, such as VoIP and VoLTE and IMS-based Rich Communications Suite (RCS). Its chief operating officer, Doug Makishima (News - Alert), is a primary speaker at VoLTE Conference 2012, held at the Hotel Novotel Convention Roissy CDG in Paris, France from Oct. 10-12.

At the conference, attendees will discuss and learn about the necessary steps required to prepare a network for a commercial launch of VoLTE services, the requirements of future VoLTE/IMS, fixed-line services that are easy to migrate to VoLTe, and what the voice features are for the near future.

During his first presentation, “4G IMS Android (News - Alert) Smartphone Rollout” on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 11:30 a.m., Makishima will discuss the May 2012 launch of the world’s first 4G all IP communications smartphone, YTL’s Eclipse. The Eclipse is the precursor to a full voice over LTE and rich communications native experience and is powered by D2’s mCUE 4G, a converged 4G mobile communications client for VoLTE and RCS video calling.

mCUE 4G is the most advanced embedded IMS IP communications software solution for the Android OS platform, supporting both the IR.92 VoLTE and RCS/RCS-e GSMA (News - Alert) standards to deliver features like HD voice, real-time video call, instant message, presence, SMS-over-IP and VCC/CSFB on 4G mobile networks.  Through tight Android system integration and optimization, mCUE 4G helps carriers and device manufacturers economically create new products such as smartphones, tablets, media phones and other mobile devices that deliver today’s most in-demand IMS communications features.

Makishima’s second presentation, “VoLTE Device Integration and Optimization Considerations,” will occur on Friday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m.  During this talk, participants will hear a debate of the pros and cons of VoLTE engines running on app processors or on LTE modems.  He will also touch on the impact of adding VoLTE to Android or other mobile operating systems and how to solve the IMS dual-registration issue when running RCS on the same device.
